Paris, France, 10th November, 2010 —FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), has launched its annual Heineken Cup “FedEx Rugby Dream Day”, signing up Bath and England’s Lee Mears, Cardiff Blues and Welsh International Leigh Halfpenny and Biarritz and French International Dimitri Yachvili to become ambassadors for the FedEx competition to support its promotion.
The Dream Day offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry European club rugby’s premier trophy, the Heineken Cup, across the Millennium Stadium pitch to the winner’s podium after the Cardiff final on May 22, 2011, in front of a crowd of 80,000 fans. The winner will receive the very best VIP treatment, including tickets in a private suite for the final, plus flights and accommodation for two people.
Entrants will answer a series of questions staged before each pool match at a special microsite featured on http://www.rugbydreamday.com. The quiz will be open to anyone within the UK, Ireland and France. In case of a tie, the players will be asked to answer tie-breaker questions.
The competition winner will also have their photograph and profile included in the Official Match Day programme, receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium on match day, and receive two signed rugby shirts (one from each finalist team). In addition, they will meet broadcast personalities, attend the post-match press conference, and have their pictures taken with celebrities from the sporting world attending the event.
“Rugby aligns very well with our values as teamwork, speed and reliability are key to our business and key to victory on the pitch,” said Andy Self, vice president, Marketing and Communications, FedEx Express, Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent & Africa. “Rugby is a sport that delivers passion and emotion and, as a result, we have been sponsors of the Heineken Cup since the 2005/06 season and just recently renewed our contract for another four years. The FedEx Rugby Dream Day clearly demonstrates the FedEx Express commitment to delivering outstanding customer experiences, offering opportunities for fans to fulfill their dreams.”
“The feeling of carrying the Heineken Cup across the pitch in front of 80,000 fans towards the winning team at the podium will be an incredible moment for the winner,” said Jean-Pierre Lux, president of ERC. “This really is a sensational prize, not just in rugby but across sport in general”.
The FedEx Rugby Dream Day competition will end after the close of the pool rounds on January 23, 2011. The winner will be announced in April 2011.
