FedEx Express Opens a New Station in Metz

METZ, France, Feb. 28, 2012—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced the opening of a new station in Metz. The new Metz station is FedEx’ third facility in the east of France, alongside operations in Strasbourg and Mulhouse. The station offers local customers, as well as those in the surrounding Lorraine region, access and connectivity to 90 percent of the world’s GDP within two days, and projects the creation of six jobs for the region.

Metz is the capital of the Moselle department and the historic capital of the Lorraine region—an important center of commerce as the only French region to share its borders with three other European countries (Germany, Belgium and Luxemburg).

“Metz holds a unique position at the crossroads of major European traffic flows, including the north-south axis (Brussels-Luxemburg-Metz-Nancy-Dijon) and the east-west axis that brings it closer to Paris and the major German cities,” said Dirk van Impe, managing director, Operations, FedEx Express France. “Metz is one of the most important cities in the Moselle department, with 41 percent of the Department’s companies located in or around the city . Through our new Metz center it is now easy for these companies to connect and trade with global markets in the shortest time possible.”

The new facility enables FedEx to offer local companies of all sizes a wide range of transportation services as they seek to expand their businesses in Europe and around the globe. For example, a company needing a next-business-day delivery by 3 p.m. to a city on the East Coast of the U.S. can tender their shipment as late as 6 p.m. the day before.

Customers in the region can now benefit from access to a wide range of FedEx Intra-European and Intercontinental express transportation services, including next-business-day deliveries and economy services within two to five days. These services are available for documents and small parcels as well as large shipments.

The facility, 613 square meters in size—477 square meters of warehouse space and 136 square meters of offices, has seven FedEx vans in operation, and processed more than 400 shipments during its first two days of operation alone. The station is connected through a road network to the FedEx European hub at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle.
