Federal Express Corporation, the world’s largest express transportation company, today announces strategic improvements to its UK network, including plans to open two new state-of-the-art logistics hubs close to its existing Kingsbury / Atherstone and Marston Gate sites.
This strategic move consolidates its existing road hub infrastructure from five hubs into two brand new facilities, incorporating advanced technologies to enhance service for customers and support future growth.
The new hubs, anticipated to be operational by 2029, will each be able to sort 32,000 packs per hour, and process different types of deliveries for customers, including international freight and ecommerce shipments, unlocking growth for UK businesses across many sectors – including SMEs looking to trade internationally. The hubs will also provide a more comfortable working environment for team members.
“We are excited about plans to renew our hub infrastructure in the UK and commit in the creation of two new delivery hubs, said Rob Peto, vice president of operations, FedEx. “This is a substantial commitment into the UK and will mean we’re well positioned for future growth with a dynamic, flexible and efficient end-to-end network. It will also present exciting opportunities for our team members over the long term and further enhance the service we deliver to our customers.’’
FedEx ships to 220 countries and territories, connects more than 2.5 million shippers with 200 million customers worldwide, and delivers 17 million packages globally each day. FedEx has operated in the UK since 1984 and provides a range of transportation services for businesses trading internationally and domestically. In addition to its road network, FedEx has operations at three air hubs across the UK.
While there are no changes for FedEx employees in the short term, the multi-year project will affect working locations for some team members across its hubs. FedEx is committed to working closely with union and team member representatives on the delivery of the project to ensure team members are properly supported.
