Awarded the AmCham Corporate Social Responsibility Award for nurturing entrepreneurs, supporting ophthalmic communities and extending access to healthcare

FedEx VN AmCham CSR Award

HANOI, Vietnam, December 12, 2022 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, received the 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award from the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham) for the fourth consecutive year, in appreciation of its initiatives to assist and strengthen communities in Vietnam.

The annual award recognizes AmCham member companies in Vietnam that demonstrate commitment through impactful community outreach initiatives, deliver good governance, and adopt sustainable business practices.

“Our mission is to connect the world responsibly and resourcefully. Bringing essential healthcare services to under-served communities, supporting the medical professionals, and nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs is who we are and what we do. It gives us an enormous sense of purpose to use our network and expertise to support the social and economic needs of local communities in Vietnam,” said Hardy Diec, managing director, Operations, FedEx Express Indochina.

FedEx Cares, the organization’s global community outreach program is focused on driving global entrepreneurship, sustainable logistics and humanitarian relief. Through a multitude of programs in 2022, FedEx supported the annual educational program FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge, the virtual training for eyecare professional through Flying Eye Hospital project, and brought critical healthcare services to rural areas through its FedEx Delivers Heartbeats program.

  • Nurturing innovators for what’s next
FedEx has teamed up with Junior Achievement (JA), the world’s largest organization dedicated to promoting global trade and entrepreneurship education among the youth. Through the FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge (ITC) program – now in its 16th year – students have the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of business and international trade. This year’s competition was held virtually and included a series of workshops held in April 2022 where more than 400 students from 36 schools participated.
  • Medical training for eye care teams to prevent vision-loss
In May 2022, FedEx teamed up with Orbis International to launch a virtual Flying Eye Hospital project offering training to eye care professionals across Vietnam on ways to prevent the worsening of vision loss due to glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness and visual impairment. The trainings aimed to address the rising number of glaucoma cases in Vietnam, especially among the younger population, as the country continues to face shortages of skilled eye care professionals and limited access to quality eye care, particularly in rural areas.
  • Delivering healthcare access to under-served areas
2022 marks the 11th year of FedEx collaboration with VinaCapital Foundation for the FedEx Delivers Heartbeats Outreach Clinic program. With top cardiologists and surgeons from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang, the mobile clinics travel across the country to 22 provinces to provide 50,000 children access to quality healthcare services. The clinic visits include patient registration, diagnosis, and surgery plans for patients and their families. The 2022 program has been expanded to include screening of hypertension and diabetes for more than 1,000 children and adults.

In July 2022, FedEx and VinaCapital Foundation also teamed up to refurbish the children’s wing at the Heart Institute of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam National Children’s Hospital in Hanoi, providing psychological care and support for children undergoing treatment for congenital heart defects.

The FedEx Delivers Heartbeats program has impacted the lives of more than 211,000 children all over rural Vietnam and improved the quality of life for families and communities by providing the underserved with proper diagnosis and treatment for their illnesses.

These community outreach initiatives are consistent with FedEx Cares 50 by 50 goal to positively impact 50 million people around the world by the company’s 50th anniversary in 2023. Learn more about FedEx Cares initiative here.
