HONG KONG, January 14, 2005 — FedEx Express (FedEx), the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced the opening of its eighth station in Hong Kong. The new station is part of FedEx’s commitment to meet anticipated increasing customer demands in Hong Kong for logistics related services.
“FedEx is optimistic about the prospects for Hong Kong’s express and logistics industry,” said Peter Yin, FedEx’s Regional Vice President, South Pacific, “We are seeing Hong Kong extend and refine its role as a key player in high-end logistics services. As our customers move to take advantage of opportunities provided by the growth of the Pearl River Delta region, this additional station will double our capacity in one of Hong Kong’s most important manufacturing areas, Tsuen Wan, and give us the capability to handle substantially more volume and increasing customer demands.”
Occupying an office and operating center area of 41,000 square feet, the Tsuen Wan station is strategically situated close to FedEx’s customers as well as the airport, reducing the transportation time to and from the airport for delivery of time-sensitive goods. The new station will provide handling for up to 6,400 packages per hour of any size or shape.
Mr. Yin continued, “We made a number of service enhancements in 2004, including the expansion and facility upgrade at our Gateway Operation in Hong Kong International Airport, the introduction of the noon delivery service and the additional flights to Incheon. These moves are all designed to lay a solid foundation for anticipated future demand.”
Today, FedEx operates 35 weekly flights in and out of Hong Kong. FedEx has over 1,000 employees in Hong Kong, 9 drop-off locations and 14 drop-off boxes, 11 FedEx World Service Centers at Cheung Sha Wan, Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui East, To Ka Wan, Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan, Chai Wan, Kennedy Town, Central and Hong Kong International Airport, and eight FedEx operations stations in Cheung Sha Wan, To Ka Wan, Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan, Chai Wan, Kennedy Town and Shatin.
