FedEx Express Launches Enhanced QR Pay in Taiwan

QR Code® Based Payment Option Enhances Customer Experience With Greater Flexibility and Convenience


TAIPEI, May 21, 2019 — FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has launched enhanced QR (Quick Response) Pay in Taiwan. The enhanced QR Pay facilitates an easy, efficient shipping process by offering customers a faster and easier way to pay for their bills, which is key in helping SMEs keep up with today’s fast-moving business world.

Supplementing existing online payment methods (including FedEx Billing Online), QR Pay is a secure and convenient mobile payment option using a QR code®, which is embedded with a unique payment link. Customers can simply scan the QR code® printed on their invoices[1] with their smartphones, which will then automatically direct them to the payment page with corresponding invoice numbers and amounts. Enhanced QR Pay simplifies the payment process by eliminating the need to input the invoice numbers and amounts, making the payment process more seamless than ever. In Taiwan, customers can use Enhanced QR Pay to settle payments with credit cards.

According to Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC)[2], the penetration of mobile payment use in Taiwan has jumped from 39.7% in 2017 to over 50% in 2018. Also, Taiwan has the third highest average number of mobile devices owned by an individual in Asia Pacific[3]. Seeing the clear trend towards mobile payment adoption, SMEs are also harnessing new technologies to expand their business. According to research by FedEx[4], 60% of Taiwan SMEs are already current users of mobile payments, with 68% of them likely to increase usage in the next 12 months. Over thirty percent of current non-users are likely to begin using mobile payments as well.

Apart from Taiwan, Enhanced QR Pay has also been launched in other markets across Asia Pacific, including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
