VIETNAM, October 05, 2020 — FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, announced it will accept dangerous goods (DG) shipments in the Class 9 category to and from its Hanoi gateway. This new service will allow customers from select cities and provinces served by the Hanoi Gateway, that include Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, and Vinh Phuc, to ship and receive DG Class 9 shipments. Customers managing dangerous goods shipments for essential items that are classified to be DG, such as medical life-saving appliances and dry ice, can benefit from this new service.
To utilize the DG Class 9 shipping service, customers must ensure that their shipment is in full compliance with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) dangerous goods requirements prior to shipping. Customers can choose from FedEx International Priority (IP), FedEx International Priority Freight (IPF), FedEx International Premium (IP1), FedEx International Express Freight Service (IXF) and FedEx International Airport-To-Airport (ATA). Products and substances that fall under DG Class 9 need to fulfill special handling requirements to be shipped safely. This includes items such as lithium batteries, aviation-regulated solids or liquids, capacitors and life-saving appliances.
Amid COVID-19, certain items that are considered DG Class 9 are still a high priority requirement, given the need for transporting medical equipment that contain lithium batteries and items that require dry ice.
“At FedEx, we continue to enhance our services to support the growing needs of businesses, particularly in North Vietnam.” said Hardy Diec, Managing Director, FedEx Express Indochina. “The launch of our Dangerous Goods service is expected to positively help communities in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Our service will support firms of all sizes, from Vietnamese SMEs to large enterprises as they resume operations after months of disruption. We are proud to support their business recovery plans and help safely transport goods of all kinds through our global network.”
Hanoi continues to attract foreign direct investment. In the first nine months of 2019, it has a registered total capital of US$ 6.82 billion, accounting for 21.5% of total investment capital in the country[1]. The greater northern Vietnam area remains as one of the country’s key economic zones with the region accounting for more than 32%[2] of the country’s GDP.
To support the growing demand from these industries in North Vietnam, FedEx continues to invest in its network to create more possibilities for Vietnamese businesses. In 2018, to enhance connectivity for the region, FedEx introduced a new flight connecting Hanoi to the FedEx APAC Hub in Guangzhou, China.
