Hong Kong SAR, China, June 3, 2021—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, today announced that four nonprofits – Arbor Day Foundation, Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation, United Way Mumbai and Solar Sister, Inc., will receive grants totaling US$200,000 from FedEx under its Priority Earth Global Grant Program (PEGGP). Together with eight other nonprofits from other regions[1], each will receive a US$50,000 grant in support of their efforts to improve the environment.
As part of the PEGGP, FedEx team members reviewed a list of nonprofit organizations focused on environmental protection programs. Close to 3,000 team members globally voted on the nonprofit they believed would best support the FedEx sustainability vision.
“Connecting the world responsibly and resourcefully is a longstanding mission at FedEx. We believe in combining strategy with strong action as the way for global commerce to navigate into a promising future. Sustainable practices require broader collaboration and we recognize the importance of working with leading NGOs to benefit the communities we serve,” said Kawal Preet, president, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa Region (AMEA), FedEx Express. “The smallest actions, if purposeful, can create meaningful impact. Through this program, we want to ensure that all our teams in this region embrace and work toward the collective goal to protect our planet.”
“We continue to positively impact our climate through simple acts like planting trees. Thanks to fantastic partners like FedEx who understand that sustainability is a vital investment for the future of our planet,” said Dan Lambe, President of the Arbor Day Foundation.
“In the Philippines, 1 in 10 Filipinos don’t have access to safe water, and water-borne diseases still feature in the top 10 health concerns in our country.[2] That is why Gawad Kalinga is aggressively pushing to bring clean water to poor communities, especially during this pandemic,” said Dan Bercasio, Executive Director, Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation, Inc. “We would like to express our deep gratitude to FedEx for the generous donation. This grant will give us an opportunity to provide safe water to at least 600 poor families in communities across the Philippines.”
“The support from FedEx will help United Way Mumbai plant and maintain mangrove saplings in degraded wetlands in Mumbai. It will also support efforts to clean and maintain our beaches and reduce marine pollution. We are grateful for this support and know that it will contribute to lasting change in our communities,” said George Aikara, CEO, United Way Mumbai.
“We are so grateful to FedEx for sharing our values and our vision to create lasting impact toward a sustainable future. Investing in women’s enterprises in off-grid communities is a key part of the solution to the clean energy challenge. The support from FedEx will help to scale our model to more communities in sub-Saharan Africa, multiplying the impact that we have on women entrepreneurs, their families, and their communities,” said Katherine Lucey, Founder and CEO of Solar Sister, Inc.
