HONG KONG, March 16, 2017 — FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, is once again holding its successful FedEx Small Business Grant Contest to help more small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) connect with a world of opportunities. Following last year’s successful debut, the contest is returning to Hong Kong this year, giving SMEs the opportunity to win a total of HK$230,000 in grants.

The contest is designed to provide SMEs with the inspiration and financial resources to take their business global, helping them grow their footprint and sharpen their competitive edge. Originally conceived in the U.S. five years ago, the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest went global for the first time in end-2016, with contests in Brazil, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK in addition to the U.S. This year, the contest makes its debut in mainland China, India and Italy as well.

“At FedEx, we believe the spirit of entrepreneurialism is what drives SMEs to take their business to the next level,” said Anthony Leung, managing director, FedEx Express, Hong Kong and Macau. “We are now living and working in the digital economy. The huge array of digital tools and channels available today makes it easier for SMEs to extend their reach internationally to find new customers and grow their businesses. I encourage all SMEs that believe they have the passion and ideas to enable their business to go global to consider taking part.”

Among last year’s winners was B-Free Technology Limited, whose founder is an enthusiastic inventor set on creating a stair-friendly wheelchair to help the disabled increase mobility. Winning the contest enabled the company to bring the product to life, give away several units to those in need for further optimization, and expand to Europe.

How to Enter

The contest is open to for-profit Hong Kong SMEs that have been operating for six months or more and have no more than 99 employees. Between March 16 and April 26, contestants can submit their business stories online for the judges’ consideration. On May 12, the top 10 shortlisted entries will be announced and invited to present their business ideas at a pitching event. Contest winners will be announced on May 27. Three tiers of grants will be awarded in Hong Kong: a Grand Prize of HK$150,000; a First Runner-up Prize of HK$50,000; and a Second Runner-up Prize of HK$30,000.
