Students Join FedEx and Safe Kids Vietnam To Celebrate International Walk to School Month

Launches Walk with FedEx Tour To Increase Awareness For Child Pedestrian Safety In Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY, November 3, 2015 – FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), recently celebrated International Walk To School Month by launching this year’s Walk With FedEx Tour. Held in collaboration with Safe Kids Vietnam-Asia Injury Prevention (AIP), the program will bring pedestrian safety education and equipment to 21,000 students in 18 primary schools throughout District 9 with the aim of raising awareness about road user safety and advocating improvements in pedestrian environments.

From November 2015 to May 2016, FedEx volunteers and Safe Kids Vietnam-Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) will hold a school-wide safety day at each school. They will conduct pedestrian safety training sessions, distribute safety booklets, and encourage students to practice their newly-acquired skills in mobile traffic simulation corners. Each training will be followed by a staging of the play “The Tortoise and the Hare,” featuring actors from Ho Chi Minh City Theater to reinforce pedestrian safety messages for students in an entertaining and fun way.

“At FedEx, International Walk to School Day is significant as we are dedicated to help make Vietnam’s roads safer for children to use,” said Nguyen Duy Binh, senior manager for FedEx in Indochina and chief representative of FedEx in Vietnam. “We have been encouraged by the progress made by the Walk This Way program, and hope that the Walk With FedEx Tour will continue to help make a positive impact among students and road users in the country.”

FedEx and Safe Kids-AIP Foundation support International Walk To School Month as part of Walk This Way, a road safety advocacy program launched in 2010 to encourage safer road user behaviors among motorists and create safer, more walkable communities for child pedestrians. FedEx and Safe Kids-AIP Foundation help address the issue through research, facilitation of physical improvements to school zones, and education and awareness campaigns for students and road users throughout the year.
