SEOUL, Sept. 26, 2011 — FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, recently organized an environmental clean-up at the Bukhansan National Park in Seoul, as a part of ‘FedEx Cares Week’, an annual initiative that promotes volunteerism among its team members.
The clean-up was held in conjunction with the United National Environment Programme (UNEP) on Sept. 24 and saw 25 employees in Korea undertake activities such as removing invasive species, planting trees and picking up trash. Bukhansan is one of the largest national parks in Seoul. FedEx employees also organized an outdoor campaign to promote hiking and generate awareness of the importance of appreciating nature and reducing environmental damage.
Since 2005, FedEx has chosen one week every year for its global ‘FedEx Cares Week’ initiative to encourage its team members to volunteer for local community projects. Activities with an environmental theme were chosen this year to promote the sustainability of natural resources and highlight the company’s corporate commitment to preserving the environment.
In the Asia Pacific region alone, about 1,000 FedEx employees in 12 countries, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, are expected to contribute more than 4,500 service hours to addressing the social needs of the local communities through a variety of volunteer activities taking place during the week.
“FedEx Korea is a global express transportation company which not only cares about satisfying its customers with fast and reliable services, but also cares about the community in which it lives and operates,” said Eun-Mi Chae, managing director of FedEx Korea. “As a socially responsible corporation and a thoughtful business partner, we will continue to encourage greater care among our team members, customers and communities towards the environment and our natural surroundings.”
