FedEx Expands Multi-Destination Single-Clearance Service For Shipments to All EU Countries
HONG KONG, April 12, 2007—FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest transportation company, has expanded its FedEx International Priority DirectDistributionsm (IPD) single point of clearance service to 12 new countries in the European Union (EU). The IPD single point of clearance service is now available to all 27 EU countries.
Businesses in Asia Pacific can now ship a consolidated shipment from one origin country to multiple recipients in any EU country, all under one international air waybill and one consolidated commercial invoice. Customers who require time-definite delivery of their shipments to multiple destinations, especially those in the electronics, automotive, and pharmaceutical industries will enjoy various additional benefits including:
· Reaching new markets with reduced costs in customs clearance, warehousing and inventory; and
· Shipping to EU more efficiently with a reduced order-to-delivery cycles to two to four days.
The 12 new destinations are Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
In Asia Pacific, the service is available in 12 markets, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and the Philippines.
“Four of the EU’s top 10 trading partners are Asian countries, which reinforces the importance of Asia to the European economy,” said David L. Cunningham, Jr., president of FedEx Express Asia Pacific. “This enhancement provides businesses in Asia with more efficient access to all EU markets, and opens doors for new business opportunities.”
The service enhancement is a part of the ongoing FedEx commitment to strengthening its connection between Asia and Europe for customers. Recent enhancements by FedEx for the Asia-Europe segment include launching the express air cargo industry’s first express direct flight from mainland China to Europe in March 2005, and doubling the capacity between Europe and Asia during the launch of a first overnight express daily flight between India and China in September 2005.
These enhancements provide tremendous benefits to FedEx customers as the EU maintains its position as China’s top trading partner, as of January 2007, with 24.26 billion US dollars of trade during the month.
