SINGAPORE, November 3, 2025 — Federal Express Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has further enhanced its intra-Asia network to meet growing trade demand in Southeast Asia, increasing connectivity, capacity and agility for Asian businesses.
Elevating Malaysia’s Regional Connectivity with New Nonstop flights in and out of Penang
FedEx has introduced nonstop cargo flights connecting its Asia Pacific hub at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) with Penang International Airport (PEN). The Boeing B767 freighters operate five times a week, from Monday to Friday, providing Penang with dedicated inbound capacity. Importers also benefit from earlier deliveries by one hour, improving supply chain efficiency for businesses across industries.
To further strengthen supply chain agility for Southeast Asian businesses, FedEx has also extended the pick-up cut-off time in Malaysia’s Klang Valley by one hour for Asia-bound shipments departing Kuala Lumpur, providing greater flexibility to local businesses.
The company’s network enhancements are part of a broader commitment to strengthen logistics capabilities in the region. In Malaysia, FedEx recently announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) to develop a 100,000-square-foot logistics facility within the upcoming Penang International Logistics Aeropark (PILA). Scheduled for completion in 2028, the RM46 million investment will bolster ASEAN’s logistics infrastructure and accelerate regional trade flows.
Boosting Thailand’s Cargo Capacity
FedEx has added five weekly Boeing 767 freighter flights between its Asia Pacific hub at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). This expansion increases capacity inbound into Bangkok and onward to the US, via our South Pacific Hub in Singapore, providing local businesses with reliable access to markets across APAC and beyond.
“Asia Pacific is emerging as the powerhouse of global trade growth, with Southeast Asia fueling some of the world’s most dynamic trade corridors,” said Salil Chari, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Customer Experience, FedEx. “Our continued investments in enhancing connectivity and infrastructure highlight our long-term commitment to empowering businesses across the region with the speed, reliability and global reach they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive economy.”
Supporting Southeast Asia’s Trade Momentum
This network enhancement is timely as Southeast Asia’s trade activity continues to accelerate. ASEAN’s total merchandise trade reached USD 3.8 trillion in 2024, while exports from ASEAN countries along with China, Japan, and South Korea grew by 7% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, underscoring the deepening economic integration across Asia. As Southeast Asia emerges as a global manufacturing hub, high‑growth trade routes connecting technology hubs, production clusters, and emerging markets require agile, reliable logistics infrastructure and freight networks to underpin this momentum.
To support the region’s pivotal role as a growth engine for global trade FedEx has further enhanced its service in Northern Vietnam in September, with the additional outbound flight connecting Hanoi with South Korea, improving connectivity to key Asian markets and supporting the growing role of Southeast Asian businesses in regional trade.
