FedEx and Xiamen Municipal Government Establish Strategic Collaboration

XIAMEN, March 24, 2023 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, today announced a strategic collaboration with the Xiamen Municipal Government. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Zhou Dan-Rong, deputy director, Xiamen Transportation Bureau and Amelia Wang, managing director, operations, FedEx China.

Under the MOU, FedEx and the Xiamen Municipal government will explore opportunities to strengthen their cooperation in various areas, including air network planning, infrastructure, supply chain management, cross-border e-commerce and sustainable logistics to meet market growth and customer needs. The two parties will work together to optimize and expand international air cargo operations in Xiamen, support cross-border e-commerce growth, and promote sustainable development in the logistics industry.

Xiamen has witnessed rapid growth in import and export business in recent years. In 2022, Xiamen’s foreign trade volume reached 922.56 billion yuan (about 134.23 billion USD) with a year-on-year increase of 4%[1], accounting for 46.5% of Fujian Province’s total[2]. The development of Xiamen’s cross-border e-commerce also showed outstanding performance. The cross-border e-commerce sales in Xiamen reached 89.35 billion yuan (about 13 billion USD) in 2022, up 30% year-on-year[3].

This year marks the 50th anniversary of FedEx. The company entered the China market in 1984 and set up a branch in Xiamen to serve local customers directly in 2003. The collaboration with the Xiamen Municipal Government is another milestone of FedEx development in China, leveraging its global air-and-ground network and transportation capabilities to contribute to local economy and trade development.
