HONG KONG SAR, March 4, 2026 — Federal Express Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has collaborated with The Salvation Army to launch a community care and environmental upcycling project. Through this programme, discarded wooden pallets donated by FedEx were transformed into 15 multi-purpose wooden cabinets, which were distributed to 15 low-income families via The Salvation Army units before Chinese New Year. The cabinets, meticulously designed by professional craftsmen, blend practicality and aesthetics. They can serve as bookshelves, coffee tables, or storage racks, helping to optimize home storage space, improve living conditions, and enhance residents’ sense of well-being.

In this project, FedEx not only supplied pallets as raw materials for upcycling but also mobilized local volunteer teams to participate in assembling and arranging delivery of the wooden cabinets, ensuring the blessing-laden cabinets reached families across districts safely and on time. One beneficiary family shared that the cabinets are both practical and attractive, saying, “They help us effectively organize household clutter, and both my child and I love them.” The new additions have made their home neater and more comfortable.

“Through this collaboration with The Salvation Army to upcycle discarded wooden pallets, we are giving transportation materials a second life, reducing waste while supporting the community in a truly meaningful way,” said Anthony Leung, managing director, FedEx Hong Kong and Macau. “This upcycling initiative reflects FedEx’s ongoing commitment to community care and sustainable development in Hong Kong. As a responsible company, we have consistently supported community development and addressed local needs through diverse community outreach programmes and innovative environmental initiatives, striving to build a more resilient and sustainable future.”

“The Salvation Army has consistently prioritized the needs of low-income families. Our frontline workers frequently observe cramped living conditions and insufficient storage space during service engagements,” said Major Glenn Price, Secretary for Business Administration of The Salvation Army. " To address this critical issue, we collaborated with community allies to meet these needs. The successful implementation of this programme has been made possible through the generous support of FedEx. Beyond their practical utility, these wooden cabinets are filled with heartfelt care. Through this small yet meaningful change, the quality of life for beneficiary families is significantly enhanced, making their homes more comfortable and pleasant.”

FedEx set a goal in 2021 to achieve carbon-neutral operations globally by 2040. The company has been promoting a company culture focused on sustainable development and community integration, while incorporating reusable or recyclable materials in daily operations and digitizing processes to reduce carbon emissions. To accelerate corporate sustainability and support Hong Kong’s carbon-neutral vision, FedEx is electrifying its fleet to transform last-mile delivery services. Last year, FedEx added new electric vehicles (EVs) to its Hong Kong delivery fleet for pickup and delivery operations.

Additionally, FedEx has been actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by giving back to society through volunteer services, donations, and upcycling initiatives. This includes collaborating with local non-profits for tree-planting, beach cleanups, and upcycling old uniforms to promote sustainable living and a caring culture in Hong Kong communities. Last year, FedEx received multiple local business recognitions for its community contributions. Most recently, FedEx again received logo recognition under the Caring Company Scheme by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the SDG Corporate Award – Impact Achievement from the Fair Trade Hong Kong Foundation.
