Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, brought together team members and community partners through two conservation initiatives in southern Vietnam, planting 100 trees in Ho Chi Minh City and supporting the restoration of one hectare of mangrove forest in Vinh Long Province. Together, the activities engaged 60 FedEx volunteers and form part of FedEx Cares’ Advancing Climate Solutions efforts, which engage team members in hands-on conservation to help communities become more resilient.
On August 23, FedEx collaborated with the Arbor Day Foundation and local planting partners Ecoculture and ReForest Vietnam to plant native tree species near Ho Chi Minh City National University Urban Area, Dong Hoa Ward. The activity supports urban greening and nature-based solutions that can help provide shade, reduce heat, manage stormwater run-off and improve air quality, contributing to healthier and more resilient urban communities.

Earlier in August, FedEx partnered with the Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD United Way Vietnam) through the Environment Ambassador program to restore mangrove ecosystems at Hung Long Islet, Long Hoa Commune, Vinh Long Province. FedEx team members joined representatives from local authorities and community members in activities supporting the restoration of one hectare of mangrove forest.
Mangrove forests play an important role in protecting shorelines from erosion, supporting biodiversity, storing carbon and strengthening community resilience against the impacts of climate change. In the Mekong Delta, where rising water levels and erosion continue to pose environmental challenges, restoring mangrove ecosystems can contribute to the long-term health of local communities and natural habitats.
“Restoring mangrove ecosystems requires not only planting trees, but also long-term commitment, technical care, and strong collaboration with local communities,” said Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoc Quy, Southern Office Representative at MSD United Way Vietnam. “Beyond planting mangrove trees, MSD will work with local partners to coordinate implementation, support community engagement, and contribute to the four-year monitoring and maintenance process, helping ensure that the restored ecosystem delivers lasting environmental and social benefits for the local community.”
Together, two initiatives demonstrate how FedEx Cares’ Advancing Climate Solutions efforts bring together team members, conservation partners and communities through practical, locally relevant environmental action. By supporting both urban tree planting and mangrove restoration, FedEx continues to contribute to environmental sustainability and community resilience in the markets where its team members live and work.
