HONG KONG SAR, China, June 5, 2024 —Federal Express Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has collaborated with Hong Kong social enterprises to infuse fresh purpose into unused, old uniforms and shipping materials, advancing towards a more sustainable future.

Nearly 260 old uniforms were transformed by Dress Green into brand new FedEx products such as tote bags, laptop sleeves, umbrella cases, and waist bags. Additionally, in collaboration with other local social groups, 179,000kg wood skids were upcycled into cat litter, and reusable materials for other shipping companies.

“FedEx is committed to forging our path towards a smarter and more sustainable future,” said Anthony Leung, managing director, FedEx Express Hong Kong and Macau. “Our Hong Kong team has been exploring different solutions to minimize our operational footprint on the local environment. Recycling old uniforms and unused materials exemplifies one of the green practices we integrate into our work. Leveraging our extensive experience and expertise spanning 40 years, we’re pioneering various sustainability initiatives in Hong Kong to create a smart and sustainable supply chain for all.”

The year 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of FedEx’s presence in Hong Kong. FedEx continues to invest in sustainable logistics to improve its footprint and make communities more liveable. The FedEx Hong Kong district office has been recently awarded the Green Office Label and Eco-Healthy Workplace Label from the World Green Organization. Additionally, FedEx is launching a series of sustainability-themed community service initiatives to celebrate its 40th anniversary, including collaborative cleanup efforts, tree-planting activities, and an internal green impact challenge inviting all local team members to minimize their environmental footprint for a week.

Over the past few decades, the company has focused on its sustainability efforts following a “practical sustainability” philosophy, and is implementing shifts like vehicle electrification and sustainable facility enhancements to make progress towards a goal of carbon-neutral global operations by 2040. Each year FedEx publishes its achievements and advancements in its environmental, social and governance (ESG) report as part of its commitment to sustainability leadership in the transportation and logistics industry.
