Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, May 21, 2024 — FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, is donating 70 computers to the Vietnam National Volunteer Center (VVC) in support of their ‘Computer Labs for Children’ program, offering students access to online learning.
Since 2022, the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam has mandated Information Technology as a compulsory subject for students from Grade Three onwards, signaling a strong emphasis on digital education. However, many schools in remote areas lack the necessary infrastructure to support this initiative. The company’s donation of computers to VVC’s computer labs across seven rural provinces in Vietnam will benefit more than 3,000 students. These efforts will not only facilitate effective learning in information technology, but also enhance their competency in a time of rapid technological change.
“The year 2024 holds particular significance for FedEx as we celebrate our 30th anniversary in Vietnam,” said Ee-Hui Tan, Managing Director of FedEx Express, Vietnam and Cambodia. “Since establishing our presence in the country, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to bringing about positive changes in local communities through our FedEx Cares global community engagement program. This program perfectly aligns with FedEx’s core value of connecting people and possibilities. By equipping students with the necessary tools to thrive in today’s digital age, we are not only paving a path for their future success but also contributing to the long-term development of Vietnam’s economy.”
The ‘Computer Labs for Children’ program was launched in March 2023 by VVC and one of its volunteer clubs, the “Nuoi Em” project. With the support of various organizations, businesses, and individuals, the program has successfully established 56 computer labs equipped with nearly 700 computers. These efforts have had a significant positive impact, benefiting almost 17,000 ethnic minority students across 13 rural provinces and cities in Vietnam.
Last month, FedEx announced the 13th edition of the FedEx Delivers Heartbeats initiative in collaboration with the VinaCapital Foundation (VCF). Additionally, FedEx will be sponsoring the 12th edition of the annual FedEx / Junior Achievers International Trade Challenge (JA ITC) this year in Vietnam.
