TOKYO, Japan, July 21, 2026 – Federal Express Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, teamed up with local non-profit Mirai no Mori to lead an environmental education program for children from care homes across the Greater Tokyo Area.

The one-day, nature-based program brought together FedEx volunteers and children for a 4-kilometer hike in Mitake area in western Tokyo. Throughout the trek, FedEx volunteers guided participants through the natural surroundings while sharing insights on sustainability and the importance of protecting local ecosystems. The immersive experience helped deepen the children’s appreciation for nature while reinforcing values such as perseverance, teamwork, and environmental responsibility. Completing the hike together also instilled a strong sense of achievement, helping to build confidence and resilience.

“We believe that empowering the next generation is key to building a more sustainable future,” said Kei Alan Kubota, managing director of FedEx Japan. “By fostering environmental awareness and leadership from an early age, we can help inspire young people to become active stewards of their communities and the natural world. Our team members are proud to support initiatives that strengthen connections with nature while encouraging learning, engagement, and positive environmental action.”

An estimated 23,000 children live in care homes across Japan, many of whom have experienced adverse circumstances and face considerable challenges as they approach adulthood [1]. Mirai no Mori is committed to creating safe, supportive environments where children feel encouraged to grow and thrive. Through nature-based experiences such as trekking, forestry work, and river rafting, the organization helps equip young people with essential skills for life after leaving the care system at age 18.

This initiative is part of the FedEx Cares, the company’s global community program. To learn more about FedEx Cares initiatives across Asia Pacific, read here.
