FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards Expand Eligibility to Include Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

The longest running fan-voted NFL awards will continue to support HBCUs while broadening eligibility beyond quarterbacks and running backs to honor even more of the game’s best players.

FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Week 2024 5C

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Sept. 5, 2024 – FedEx (NYSE: FDX), the Official Delivery Service Sponsor of the NFL, has announced a major evolution of its FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards. For the first time in the 20-plus year history of the awards, the eligible player pool will expand beyond quarterbacks and running backs, welcoming the wide receivers and tight ends who deliver elite performances. Players will no longer be restricted to winning solely the Air or Ground awards and will be recognized collectively as FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week.

To start the expansion of the awards, FedEx enlisted Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice and San Francisco 49er Deebo Samuel to spread the word about the inclusion of wide receivers and tight ends to the candidate pool.

“As football continues to evolve, we’re excited to honor the dynamic nature of the modern game by launching a new era of our popular fan-voted NFL awards,” said Brian Philips, EVP, chief marketing and communications officer at FedEx. “While the expanded eligibility will certainly shake up the race for the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year Awards, what remains the same is our commitment to supporting HBCUs through monetary donations for needs-based scholarships.”

For a fourth consecutive season, FedEx will once again work with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to make $2,000 donations in the name of the winning players to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for each week of the NFL regular season. Over the past three seasons, FedEx has donated more than $300,000 to directly support needs-based scholarships for HBCU students.

Following Sunday Night Football each week, six total players—quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends—who display the best performances will be nominated for the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards. Voting is open each week of the regular season from Monday morning to Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. ET at NFL.com/FedEx. Fans can also vote on X (formerly Twitter) via the NFL published polls at @NFL and on the NFL Mobile App.

At the end of the season, six players will be nominated for the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year Awards, with the winners announced at NFL Honors in the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Louisiana.
